IPTV Audio Out of Sync? How to Fix It
Audio that drifts out of sync with the picture โ sometimes called lip-sync drift โ is usually caused by how your device decodes and outputs the stream, not a problem with the channel itself. It's a different issue from buffering, and it has its own set of fixes.
Why audio gets out of sync
Video and audio are decoded separately and then resynchronized for playback. A mismatch can creep in from a decoder handling one stream slightly faster than the other, network jitter causing occasional dropped video frames while the audio keeps playing steadily, or an external speaker system adding its own processing delay.
Quick fixes to try first
- Close the channel and reopen it โ this alone resolves a large share of sync issues by forcing the decoders to resynchronize
- Switch the app's video decoder between 'hardware' and 'software' in its playback settings, then reopen the channel
- Update your IPTV app to the latest version, since decoder bugs are a common target of app updates
- Restart your streaming device to clear anything held in memory from a previous session
If you're using a soundbar or external speakers
External audio systems add their own processing delay on top of your streaming device's. If your app or TV has an 'audio sync adjustment' or 'lip-sync' setting, use it to manually compensate. As a test, try wired speakers instead of Bluetooth โ Bluetooth audio carries inherent extra latency that can make sync drift more noticeable.
One channel vs every channel
If the drift only happens on one specific channel while others play fine, it's more likely an encoding issue on that channel's source and worth reporting to support. If every channel drifts the same way, the cause is almost always on your device or network side rather than the stream itself.
